Our Story

The Journey Behind FunkAi

FunkAi didn’t start with fashion. It started with a deep obsession for culture, art, and the visual languages that define identity.

We’re two friends from India who met in college, later worked together at a Japanese MNC, and bonded over a shared curiosity for design and storytelling.

Our exposure to Japanese design philosophy — through conversations, shared meals, and the guidance of a seasoned in-house designer — opened our eyes to the intention behind aesthetics.

A visit to Japan transformed everything. We saw how art lived on in the streets — on clothing, packaging, graffiti, even public signage. It wasn’t just preserved. It was worn.

Returning to India, we saw a gap. Where was the fashion that celebrated culture deeply? Why were our own traditions overlooked — both here and globally?

🎨 What We Set Out to Build

A design-first fashion brand rooted in cultural appreciation.

A platform where global art traditions are reimagined using modern tools like AI.

A space where quality, storytelling, and originality matter just as much as visual appeal.

👕 What We Make

Apparel designed for streetwear — but layered with meaning.

High-quality fabrics:

  • 180 GSM regular and oversized tees
  • 240 GSM shirts
  • 350 GSM hoodies & sweatshirts

Every piece is the result of hundreds of AI explorations, refined by human judgment and cultural research.

🌍 Where We’re Going

We’re starting with Japanese art styles — but we’re expanding into Indian folk forms, lost global techniques, and modern reinterpretations.

Every product page explains the story behind the art — because fashion can be educational.

As we grow, we plan to:

  • Collaborate with real artists and communities
  • Support preservation of overlooked art forms
  • Create exclusive drops that give back to the cultures that inspired them
